This and That
Hannah--thanks for the TV 411. Now I don't have to just think of Emily Gilmore as the mother from Dirty Dancing.
As of Saturday I am an official volunteer at WRFG 89.3 FM in Atlanta. It's a progressive community radio station, much like the one I worked at in Santa Barbara. At the moment, I'm working as a volunteer producer for a public affairs program called the Class Chronicles. The show will highlight the various issues surrounding poverty with a particular focus on local struggles and activism. I'm pretty excited about getting involved in radio again. Although public affairs programming scares me. When you do a music show you just play music that you like and hope that your listeners like it as well. This will involve a little more time and brain power. Both of which are in short supply these days...
Next week I'm off to Oakland to present a paper at the annual meeting of the American Studies Association. It's a fun meeting and in my humble opinion, overall, it is more interesting than the American Sociological Association. Interestingly enough, people are also much better dressed in the American Studies realm. The paper is written, but I still need to do some work to get the presentation ready. It's also the first public appearance of my dissertation, so it's little nerve wracking.
Well, that's my life right now--not that you asked.
