I Spy

I spied, with my little eye, Susan Sullivan (Dharma and Greg, Falcon Crest) at American Splendor. So she's a "B List" (maybe C?) star, but it's something. The movie was great. I've heard great things about it and it lived up to the hype. I must admit I wasn't that familiar with Harvey Pekar or American Splendor (his underground comic book), but I enjoyed the movie immensely.

Well, so much for my competitive side. I haven't been on top of the Blog list in days. This might be excusable if I was working really hard on some project or something, but I've pretty much just been completely useless. I've been lethargic for weeks. School starts up next Monday, so that will give me a much needed kick in the pants.

I've become completely addicted to Paradise Hotel. I love that the "old" people feel so entitled to be there. Why do they have this sense of entitlement? Hmmm sounds like many of my students. Many of them come from "the OC" and are super privileged. Anyway, why are they acting like twelve year olds because someone decided to play the game? Have they not watched reality television? I think it's been pretty well established that you gotta be sneaky to win. None of this playing with dignity and honesty crap works. PLEASE! By the way, Amy is so jealous of Tara. It's completely obvious.

Okay, so you can tell that I have perhaps been watching too much television. I can't help it; sometimes it is so bad that it is just so darn good. However, I have found the time to get out a little bit. This weekend I put on my spy cap and went star watching just in case Bennifer's Wedding was still happening. We were unsuccessful, but I did have a lovely breakfast in Montecito.

I hope that everyone on the east coast is staying dry and safe. Amy, my thoughts are with you and Andy's family.

p.s. I know that the below paragraph contains a sentence fragment. It's just the way I write. Apparently one can use sentence fragments when they are a famous/established academic (see Avery Gordon, Ghostly Matters). However, as I am still a lowly graduate student and will most likely never be famous, I should perhaps stop using them.

I really like that our blogs are sorted by age. It's brings out my competitive spirit to stay on top and I therefore try to blog more often. In which case everybody wins.

Nothing much happening around here. I saw 28 Days Later for the second time last night. It was free, but the trade off was really crappy sound, so it was hardly worth it. Especially since they didn't have to alternative ending. The thought of getting to see it was the only thing that kept me from walking out! The highlight of my day, however, was the footage of Arnold getting egged at a campus appearance. Did this make the national news? It is really great!

The big news for Santa Barbara is that Bennifer (Ben and JLo) are getting married here on September 14. This is still in the rumor stage, but I?m sure that with my excellent spy skills I will be able to figure this out. I'll keep you posted.

I want to talk to about the new fall season, but I'm too tired. I guess I'l save it for later and the message board.
