March 15, 2000

I got a lot accomplished today and I didn't freak out, although I was VERY close. It was just one of those days were 100 things seemed to be happening at once, but I took a deep breath and just took care of what I thought I could and the rest will get done when I get to it.

I was in Berkeley for the weekend to celebrate a friend's simultaneous birthday and dissertation completion. It was both gratifying and depressing. It was good to see someone finish, but it highlighted that I am so very far away from being finished myself. We ate really well (Dim Sum, Vietnamese/French, Tapas and Chinese), saw a bit of the city and got to go to a really good party. I met my hero Ben Bagdikian; he was talking about media ownership and consolidation before anyone else. There were some other academic superstars, but sadly that means very little in the real world.

I returned early yesterday evening to find my latest copy of JANE waiting for me, and who was on the cover - Monica Lewinski. Why in the hell do I have to keep reading and hearing about her? JANE, why have you done this to me? Is nothing sacred?
